Does Xnews connect to the server but just not request the
overview? If not, I'd say it's offline (but we all know it will
go online if you accidentally breathe on it).

As soon as you click on any articale NOT cached in the mbx file it
automaticly connects to the news server...

So, not really offline.

Yeah, that's what I mean by "breathe on it". Just semantics, but I'd
say the 'open offline' action does what it says it does, opens the
group without connecting; OTOH, Xnews has no true offline mode, as you
are pointing out.
