Tbird configuration

I don't understand how Tbird is supposed to be 'pre-configured' to
authenticate [log on] with a newsserver because there is no place to
configure the authentication [log on user/pw] ahead of time. OE [and
others] allows for a pre-configuration before you ever access the
newsserver for the first time. OE/ Accounts/ Properties/ server
requires me to log on etc.
I understand that some newsservers will request a user/pw at the time of
accessing, and that Tbird will request this input from the user and
there is an option to save that user/pw, then everything is fine.
But some newsservers don't work like that. They never ask for a
user/pw. They give you access to some very limited number of groups and
you can read there and post there without user/pw, but you don't get any
wider access unless you logon with the user/pw when you first contact
the newsserver.
Tbird doesn't give you any way to configure to do that. I've searched
at Mozilla, but I didn't find anything there.
