Reality folded in on itself, and somewhere the following words from
"Sol Rosenberg" appeared in history:
Is there an easy filter rule using Path header in Xnews or do I
kf hallerts every day?
The short answer is "NO"...
For some time now Xnews has been able to filter on any header as long
as your server supports XHDRs, but even if your server does it
doesn't garentee all headers are available. So even if you add an
entry to your Score.ini there is a fair chance it won't work.
Second, it's quite likely that "213fc1bf" isn't as unique as it
looks; it could just be one of the internal servers used by
usenetserver.com for all received posts. Double check a few other
users from that server first before jumping to that conclusion.
Solutions:
* Grab a few of the troll's headers and paste them into a text file
for comparison. There's a good chance you missed something obvious,
something that is scorable.
*If the direct approach doesn't work, try the indirect method. Try
scoring on the crossposts, or some common subjects he uses, or even
use a "references" entry to KF him by the people he trolls (if
possible).
*Lastly, install Hamster. It takes a bit to get the hang of that
"little beast", but it completely ellimanates XHDR problems because
it can filter articles after they are downloaded. Points to remember:
- Hamster fiters are global; all entry for one group apply to any
post xPosted to that group (based on Xref header).
- Subscribed groups without set filter take priority and override
any entries you may have. You can get around this by adding a
simple entry for such groups, like:
[rec.pets]
=-1000 subject "albatross"
- News filters don't remove posts that are already in the spool,
they only catch new ones (you need scripts for that).
When a score entry refuses to function properly the first time around
it just means it needs some tweaking to get it to work correctly.
