To have to save large amounts of files only to delete them moments

To think you can magically view a file without downloading it seems
pretty lame too.

you mean you have never viewed a picture on the internet before
downloading it. Incredible!

Considering that unless you own the picture in print and can flip the
page open, the above would be impossible, no, niether have I. If you
can SEE it,
you have downloaded it. Even when you _view_ it in Xnews.

I disagree.

You can, but you'd be wrong.

When you see it on a webpage for example, you can say you
have displayed it but not downloaded it.

No, you can't. Your cache has a copy of the image locally including all
the pictures and HTML, hence, it was downloaded.

Downloaded means to have put
a copy from the source onto your computer.

See above.

I have displayed many
pictures in Xnews and downloaded very few.

Not in Xnews you haven't. It downloads and decodes the picture locally.
It is on your HD. If you chose not to save headers and articles it is
deleted when you close the window but it was downloaded.

For example to take your
meaning I have seen many freeware programs on the internet but unless
i download then I just do not have them and i cannot run them unless I
download them. Just seeing them is not downloading them.

Apples and oranges.
