The newsagent doesn't do the posting or the trimming. The entity
behind the keyboard does that.
Agreed. However, when I see top posting, most of the time the
user-agent is Outhouse Express.
I understand the concept -- that's why I reacted defensively. I don't
think the problem of the cursor landing at the top is what causes OE
users to top post. I never top posted even before QuoteFix gave me the
choice of the cursor at the top or bottom -- and even after I had the
choice, I chose to have my cursor go to the top, just like all the OE
users have to do, and many others choose to do.
The problem is, *most* OE users choose to just leave it at the top.
One particular set of problems that OE creates without QF is the
autosig. If the OEer also autosigns, both the cursor and the sig are
planted on top. That obviously doesn't work right -- so the OE user has
to get rid of the autosig.
I think a huge problem influencing OE users is the MS public help
groups. All [or almost all] of the MS MVP gurus in there top post.
That is a terrible influence on the newbie, and everytime I catch one of
the MVPs outside of the MS groups top posting, I 'share with' them my
opinion of what a terrible influence I think they are on the newbies and
therefore on newsgroup posting in general. I just recently had to do
one of my little anti-MS-MVP-topposter ranties in the spamcop ng.
I've been glancing at the headers
more lately when I've seen the top post, and much of the time Agent
has been the software.
So, there's more idiots using Agent than I suspected.
They're everywhere, they're everywhere. It's not just googlegroupers.
Ya, man. I hear ya.
How does OE give the option of the cursor placement? I've never seen
that option in OE's preferences.
OE plus QuoteFix straightens out all kinds of things besides fixing the
terrible OE quote formatting problem. QF has a world of choices not in
OE. colors for cite hierarchy, attribution configuration options,
cursor at the top or bottom, strip the sig, compressed indentation,
citing b64, QP, & html, it provided compliant sigs before OE was able
to, display implied fonts styles for bolding, italics & underlined,
showing emoticons, random sigs.
I've never installed the QuoteFix, as I never post with OE. I had no idea
that it did anything other than attempt to fix OE's default, horrendous
quoting. Thanks for rhe info.
I don't use all of those, but OE doesn't do any of that in native mode
except the newest has compliant sigs/ sig delimitor.

Again, thanks for the info.
