Notwithstanding that I just asked this question, again,
WHAT THE *** does ANYONE DO with ten million headers, let
alone WHY WOULD ANYONE STORE THEM?

To be fair, the OP didn't say he wanted to store them, just
that all the headers he needed to download numbered in the
area of 10 million. He didn't say if that was just one
group or all the groups he vists combined. Since some of
the higher traffic binary groups easily get several hundred
thousand a day, one such group that he hasn't visted for a
couple of weeks (giganews retatains 50-60 days in binary
groups) could probably accumilate that many with ease. It's
best to take them in chunks that your system can handle
(this could be as little as thousands at a time on low end
systems with little memory to hundreds of thousands at a
time on higher end systems with plenty of memory) and
discarding all the ones that you are not interest in before
DLing the next chunk.

Of course, that is the way to do it.
And the more organized you are about what groups you visit and
what you want to read/dl, the better the results will be. And if
you know about catch-up, purge, etc. (And if you spend a few
moments thinking about what size your rc file is going to be
considering how you have apparently chosen to operate your
software.)

Still, no one will answer my irate-yet-not-unreasonable
question. (I-M-O.)

From the original post:
"due to the large amount of headers that I need to download
(which sometimes number over 10 million), it becomes fairly
often to run into the dreaded "out of memory" problem. Make no
mistake, my system is decidedely high-end, with AMD dual core
2.6ghz and 2 GB OCZ dual-channel ram, and the total amount of
virtual memory is set to the max 4GB."

Again:

"...THAT I NEED TO DOWNLOAD (WHICH SOMETIMES NUMBER OVER 10
MILLION)..."
(caps mine)

And again... (sigh):
(...)WHAT THE *** does ANYONE DO with ten million headers, let
alone WHY WOULD ANYONE STORE THEM?

To the OP:
I make no mistake, you're a "decidedely" rich boy, and you must
have taken (or continue to be taking) way too large a load of
recreational substances (for your brain to manage) to even have
to post such a question. Too bad you can't answer a simple
follow up.

BTW, what does "becomes fairly often to run" mean? I love how
the internet is increasing literacy all over the world.

To c64fan:
And you (heh heh) sound exactly like a kind yet "not personally
experienced" police officer or psychologist trying to explain to
someone that his body has NOT REALLY turned a shimmery purple-
green with little pearly-red "thingies" popping out all over.
