It is a general sharing of opinion with all of you.
For some six years, I have been using Netscape and then
Thunderbird.
As I grew with net, I find that NS/TB don't have manu options to
meet my requirements. First Netscape (4.xx days) was not having
multiple pop3 accounts, and was not allowing me to post from
more than one id, so I switched to TB.
I have dial-up so I used to download mails/news and read it
offline. I found that my downloaded newsgroups went on
disappearing some once every week, and I could not find any
solution for that. Further, there were several unnecessary
prompts for compacting, several menu options coming unstuck, no
parallel downloading (it causes conflict), etc.
So I went looking for another reader.
First I tried Xnews. But was fed up with its so many windows. It
did not have automatic downloading, and it was not saving
downloads properly for offline reading. So I dumped it.
Then I installed hamster as back end server, and returned to TB
for virtual online reading of news.
Then I tried XanaNews.
I also istalled 40tude/dialog and was fed up it within 2 hours.
It is very non-intuitive. Options are hidden at odd places. I
dumped it.
Now I am happily using XanaNews.
I hope the users of various newsreaders will assess their
existing reader softwares vis-a-vis XanaNews, and would find
that XanaNews is much better than Netscape/ Thunderbird/ XNews/
Dialog that I have used.
Do give XanaNews a try. it might be the ultimate destination of
your search.
Thanks and Regards.
