If you're going to QUOTE (and that's what those greter-than symbols
mean), then don't tamper with what you're QUOTING. It's no longer a
quote, once you doctor it. Quote honestly or don't quote at all.

And - whatever its status[1] - son-of-1036 expands that (and this is
what I remembered and mentioned in my last message):

"NOTE: The first message ID is very important as the starting point of
the "thread" of discussion, and absolutely should not be deleted.
Keeping the last three message IDs gives thread-following software a
fighting chance to reconstruct a full thread even if an article or two
is missing."
