Oh... maybe I got lucky :)
In a step-through of what I did, went like this.
Clicked "Manage Groups" button to open dialog.
Selected name of offending NG (news.sofware.readers) in "Subscribed
Groups" field
Clicked "<--" button to clear it out.
Typed "news.software.readers" in "Search Group" field and clicked it's
button to locate group again.
Typed 10 into "Article Number" field
Clicked "-->" button to move group back to "Subscribed Groups" field
All went OK at this stage and I closed "Newsgroups" dialog window. It
seemed to clear whatever blockage I'd struck, so I'm keeping my
fingers crossed for now, as I'm able to post into nsr using XPN again.
