I always liked Groucho. And George Burns. And Red Skelton.

Curly Joe will not be mentioned here.

Love 'em all, I do, I do.

But forget this for now, I want to hear about spring in the mountains. No, I am NOT sucking up (lest anyone should accuse), but your writing about nature is simply beautiful, boots, the best writing you do ... and I want to hear more.

No, you do not seem to be sucking up. You seem rather to be either
trolling or attempting to rehabilitate.

Nope, I was being 100% sincere.

Do you have crocuses? Other spring flowers? Critters that are making their presence known after a long, hard, cold winter?

Please share.

Springtime is my least favorite season here in the Rockies, and I am
thankful that it does not last longer.

In the summer here, you know more or less what to expect. Cool
nights, warming mornings, mid-day heat, an afternoon thunderstorm, and
absolutely magnificent sunsets as the sky clears for another cool
night.

In the fall you see summer beginning to wane, the aspen turn gold and
you know that if you've not stocked your woodpile you best get busy.
The nights are colder, and occasionally there may be frost on the
morning windshield.

Winters are cold, though not as cold as the numbers indicate because
of the intense sun. During winter when it is clear and 5F outside you
can shovel snow in a sweatshirt. Occasional blizzards happen. But it
is a thing expected.

Springtime is something else. It does not gradually warm up here.
There is no smooth transition between "bad" weather and "good"
weather. Instead it is nearly binary. One day it will be sunny and
the high temperature will stretch toward 60F, and the next day the sky
will be covered by a single endless cloud and the day's high
temperature will be 25F. You can go into town for groceries while the
sun is shining and the birds are twittering up a storm, and return 4
hours later in a snowstorm. The birds return, yes, and their first
batch of kiddie birds is as likely to freeze to death as not. The
flowers stick their pointy heads up and the aspen leaf out. And as
likely as not the aspen will lose branches to a heavy spring snow.

Springtime in the Rockies sucks ass, that's just how it is. You live
through it, you look outside to see whether to wear a sweatshirt or a
parka, and whatever the weather is you prepare for the other half.

Ask me about summer in a couple months if you want to hear something
positive. Late June and we're into summer. Our pet rabbit was out
and about the other day, I didn't see it but I saw its tracks in the
new snow.

I will await your description of summer in the Rockies.
