Actually, if you read the full account, the worker who accessed the records was a Republican, but she did it at the bequest of her superiors, which were Democrats.
The thing is I've lived in Ohio all my life. I also worked for the State of Ohio under Governors Rhodes (R), Voinovich (R) and Taft (R). I'm Democrat, but I never saw anything truly amiss under Governor Voinovich's rule; he did a good job, IMHO, and he's doing a good job as a US Senator, IMHO.
Governor Rhodes (R) stirred up enough crap for at least 3 governors. He fired everyone down to the janitor at one point just so he could put in Republican workforce. It's what eventually brought the unions into the State of Ohio. It's also what left the state employment rolls (not just his political appointee level jobs) filled, in majority, by registered Republicans.
And Governor Taft (R)? Egad!! He held the last two 4-years terms prior to our current governor. The man dipped and dodged and denied all wrong doings under his rule. He also bullied people into covering things up for him. Government contracts were gotten via the favoritism system. Millions of our BWC dollars went poof! into thin air, and nary a one of BWC's adminstrators were foced to resign. Employee's, retiree's and taxpayer's confidential information was not safe-guarded in any solid fashion under his rule; identity theft ran amuck. The state layed off hundreds of workers; his employment base was thoroughly top-heavy--more administration than workers (and I say this as one of those non-political-appointee administrators who wound up with no one left to supervise and really should have been replaced by 3 workers for the price of me). He got into office on his 1st term by buying votes with $50 tax rebate, but promptly spent up our rainy day fund, tanked our bond standing, and raised every tax he could possibly raise other than state income taxes; he even added taxes to services not before taxed. There was too much crap that happened during his administration to even begin to outline in one post. He was eventually convicted of 2 criminal offenses while in office. And to make matters worse, our predominantly Republican state legislators let him get away with remaining in office, even though the small amount of Democrat state legislators tried to bring impeachment proceedings against him!
So don't tell me how crooked our Democrat Governor's administration is. I lived and worked under two of the most corrupt Republican Administrations in Ohio history!
Governor Strickland (D) has made good on his promise to deal with wrongdoings in a timely and firm fashion (be they committed by a Democrat or Republican) without any attempt to hide these items from the public. He forced our Attorney General (D) to resign over a big sexual harassment who-ha. He dealt with the inappropriate handling of confidential information shortly after he went into office (a hold over from the prior administration's lack policies regarding the handling of confidential information) and dismissed the people responsible for the problem--not just workers, either; he dismissed their superiors as well. He's done all of this under a predominant Republican workforce and predominantly Republican controlled state legislator (both bent on sabotaging him in some instances). So I firmly believe he has done a d*%& fine job at recovering from what Governor Taft (R) left behind. I also firmly believe he will adequately deal with any wrong doings (and people within his administration who may have committed these wrong doings). I will not believe otherwise until the matter comes to a complete conclusion. I gave Governor Voinovich (R) confidence. I intend to give Governer Strickland (D) the same confidence. Former Governor Rhodes (R) is now deceased. But as far as former Governor Taft (R) goes, I hope to gawd he never holds another public office or position of influence for the remainder of his life.
