I do, too many projects going, not enough time, priorities lean toward
contined eating, sleeping in warm dry places, mundane stuff like that.
There are disciplines that can be used to force the issue, but is
forced really desirable?
Oh, yes, for me forced writing is desirable. If I don't write lots and lots and lots of words, my brain goes gushy. I don't want gross-tasting pudding for brains, so I need to write. Even if it's just a reply to this post where I consider the fact that pudding for brains isn't just right, and that adding "gross-tasting" was the lazy solution to that issue. There are phrases more precise I could think and think on.
But, yes, I've said before (for over a decade, many of us know) that I have trouble getting around to actually writing _my own stuff._ About ten years ago when I wrote faithfully every week, I took my self-imposed deadline to write something interesting on "It's All About Me! (the column)." I started up a new web column (ugh, blog) and have only a handful of entries, some of which are favorites from the old one.
I think it will always happen, but, the reality is I've let life get in the way of the writing I really love. I've got a 5 year old daughter, I write grants and articles (and run the business that does it) whenever Maya's occupied with something else, and I try to have some balance in my life. My personal writing always falls to the bottom of the list. BUT, I'm happy that sometimes it forces itself up there and I realize I've got to make it a higher priority.
You've probably said it before, but, what kind of writing do you want to do that you're not?
