Maybe as the planet warms giant fissures will open in the crust and the
dinosaurs which have been sleeping under the earth will awaken and once more
asume their roles as lords of creation. Maybe the warmer earth will somehow
cause the output of the sun to dramatically reduce, triggering a fresh Ice
Age, not just on Earth but across the solar system. Maybe the invisible blue
unicorns will (once again) save the world from destruction.

There are many maybes.

The more outlandish of them can be safely ignored.

For the rest we make the best estimates we can of what the effects will be,
how likely they are to occur and how much it will cost to deal with or avoid
them. Currently the science of global climate change gives us the first and
the second, then leaves it to the politicians to argue over the cost.

Piffle. We do not know what, if any, climatic changes have actually been
caused by mankind's scuffling for a loaf of bread.

Right. The ozone layer depletion could just as likely be a result of them genius
bunnies havin' run their A/C full tilt boogie every time they got hot and
bothered with the need to procreate. And it's well known that, durin' times that
they ain't airborne, flyin' squirrels are usually busy releasin' CFCs into the
environment while cleanin' electronic components.

We do not know how, if at all, we can rectify those changes. We do not even
know what the correct environmental conditions are.

<staring>

Oh, well, golly, if there are (Official) Correct Environmental Conditions [CEC],
we oughta be able to look 'em up!

<browsing stacks>

Lessee... lookit! Here they are! "(Official) CEC Regulations for the
Universe"! A ton of volumes, innit.... hmmmm... Milky Way Galaxy...

<tummy rumbles>

Ooooh! Milky Way (tm)! Oh! 'Scuse!

ummm... lessee... G2 class stars... THE Sun (how solar-centric-esque!)...
summabitch! Where are the specs for Earth?

<annoyed>

<shaking tasty carrot stick at MW MIGS>

Lookit, peeps! These are REFERENCE books, that means ya ain't allowed to scamper
off with them! Whoever took that volume, return it RIGHT NOW, or... or... or
Sumpthin' Very Scary!

Of course science cannot admit that without also admitting that all the
knowledge it has accumulated amounts to a grain of sand on the shore of a
very large sea.
