Thanks for all your thoughts, guys. I appreciate it. And I'm not mad
anymore ... went out yesterday and bought myself a brand spanking new
PC, and even splurged on hiring the Geek Squad to set it up for me. This
is one *sweet* machine. The one I have now has 1 gb RAM, which I had
upgraded from 512 mb, and 160 gb hard drive. My new one has *3* gb RAM
and 600 something gb hard drive. Oughta be speedy. And I bought a bunch
of bells 'n whistles too. Oh, and a new telephone. And a new bathing
suit (different store).
And then I spent the afternoon sunning at the pool.
So see? Your advice not only helped me feel better, it also compelled me
to shop.

Yes but can you type or think any faster ? ;-)
Seriously, if you have the computer power, look into getting on of the
voice recognition software packages and get yourself a certified voice
recorder you can dictate your MS on the recorder when you are away
from the machine and the machine will type up your notes.
Theyre using that system on laptops in the school system up here for
kids who have learning disabilities and are unable to take regular
notes in class. They talk their notes into the laptop. What's it
worth? About 10 to 20 % increase in GPA for those kids because they
now have good notes and they do much better on their assignment. One
of the best outcomes I've ever seen from using new tech in a learning
situation.
