Sometimes it is a mass of interstellar dust, sometimes it is a
nebulathat is between us and the galaxy. Sometimes the galaxy itself
has a gas cloud that is part of it.

I've seen most of what you pointed out in the links before, being a
big fan of HST but that bubble, or whatever it is, just matches the
galaxy so perfectly. It just looked too perfect. Know what I mean?

I thought that perhaps you might know what it was.

There's plasma gas ( 10,000 degrees) that is very active in that
cluster. If you are looking at the grey circular object that is next
to a yell object that is next to a blur object, it looks more like a
planetary nebula to me, but it is more likely NGC 1268. If it is 1268,
then most likely you are viewing it from above ( or below) and the
"buble) would be the light from all the stars in the galaxy. There's a

That says it has very smooth arms adn a more uniform light output, way
different than say M5. so th bubble may be an illusion because of the
uniformity of the age of the stars in that galaxy. the brighter stuff
that seems to be in the buble are most likely forground stars.

That makes sense. I saw that bubble and because it looked like a
bubble, assumed it was. According to that site, the light is focused
or made to seem like a bubble from the galaxy itself, as you stated.

There's A couple of Good "U"s Down under that should be able to give
you a better explaination than I can if you really want to know.
Warning! This sort of thing can be addictive.

Why do you think I have that site bookmarked? I had to leave my 10"
Odyssey behind when I moved here. I toyed with taking the optics
alone but decided to sell it as one unit with my custom Dobsonian
drive unit. Computer driven with a B/W camera. Been looking at
scopes again since the desert and full darkness are not far away.

Did you build one of Mel's boxes?

Back in the "Odyssey" ( My first big scope was an 8 ) There were only
about three scopes anyone could afford to buy and if you wanted to go
big you had to build it yourself. Now? Wowa! I can't thik of a reason
why anyone would not want to get a scope.

You on Astromart? There's a nice 10 inch Meade SCT with bells down
your way. Lot of nice made in Japan stuff down there too. If you get
Meade or Celestron, get someone to buy it for you state side and ship
to you. I understand all US scopes include a mortage on a kidney down
there.

I've got an Celestron 8 GPS that is not too hard to lug in and out of
a car. They have the CPC version of it now, still a nice scope.

Oh but those Japanese Refractors! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
