Excerpt from article:
"The sad thing is that I have this attitude now toward authors
who send in unsolicited manuscripts. Before, I thought that the
slush pile was great because you could discover some talented
genius and that all these authors laboring away in obscurity
without agents were so noble. Now, I consider every unagented
author to be slightly psychotic and deranged, and every
unsolicited manuscript to be bad. [...]

"Was it cruel of us to make fun of the slush? Sure, maybe.
But we were overworked, underpaid assistants at the bottom
of a lofty totem pole, and putting down bad writing was our
way of lifting ourselves up. "

Is your Discouraging to Writers-esque comment an example of why you
don't recommend this misc.writing to aspiring writers?
<...>
.. I guess that would have ruined your "just give up" message.

Eh??? I thought the article was funny and apropos.
..
I found nothing funny about it. And if the article was apropos, I
find that idea depressing.
..
Really? I thought it was hilarious!

MIGS would do well to keep that in mind next time Heather whines about
her chances of getting published, begs for advice about agents/getting
published, and/or whines when someone criticizes *her* writing.

I mean, really, really funny.

"I will continue believing that being kind to each other is more
helpful and useful than trying to tear each other down."

negative attention, April 10 2008

"Sticking around, wading through the quarrels, this forum
takes on a new flavor. This made me (almost) spit my coffee
out all over the floor with laughter, as have several of the
snarkier posts around here these days."

-- Heather/serenebabe, in MW, enjoys negative
comments aimed at other peeps Dec 2007

"At first, I was freaked out and hurt. Confused. Baffled.
Sad. Embarrassed as hell, even."

Not that anyone believes Heather is shallow and insincere (especially
about writing) or nuthin'. Not much.
