197 times?

Oh, honey. You weren't raised in the Land of the Free and the Brave,
were you.

We Pledged Allegiance every morning without fail. Sometimes we had
teachers who walked us through what we were pledging. (Commies,
prolly. Trying to explain to their charges just what it was we were
saying by rote every morning.)

Most of the time it was just rote, like saying the Lord's Prayer in
church. Who really thinks about the yadda yadda?

Count the mornings from the first day of school when you were K or 1st
(K, if you were raised after a certain time. 1st, if you were raised
before then) and then each and every morning (not counting those you
were sick or excused for a grandpa's funeral or other such excuse)
until the last school morning when you were still not quite seventeen.

Way more than 197 times. More like ... 2000+

Lot of good it did. Saying "under God"? Didn't make a difference to
how I turned out. I say take "under God" out of the Pledge. It was
only put there to suss out the commies back in the fifties anyway and
there are any number of students who for whom the "under God" is for
the other guy, yet they're force to say it.

We British always support the undergod.

john (or am I having a dyslexic morning?)
