As long as you did this little PSA on my behalf (bless your
heart), I
shall unabashedly add to it. The cookbooks are $25 plus $5
for shipping
priority mail (in the U.S., I believe it's around $10 for
global priority
mail, as that's what it cost me to send one to Alan). Anyone
who's
interested can email me at pj at pjparks dot com; I accept
PayPal.
Global Priority Mail is a thing of the past now, PJ. The new
rate would be
around $16.00 for your book. The new Global Express
Guaranteed starts at
$28.50. First Class International is much less but much
slower. There's
also a product in the middle that starts at $22.00.
Oh my, I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up, Ray. With that
info, I
suspect I'll have no customers beyond the U.S. borders!
Don't worry. Air Mail still takes about 7 to 15 days and is on
the
bottom of that list at the lowest rate. You should grab a copy
of
your book and keep it in the car. When you next find yourself
near a
post office, ask them to weigh it and give you a breakdown of
all
your options so you'll know. We have customers who ask for fast
overseas posting from us and they are willing to pay sometimes
4 or
5 times the price of the book just to get it fast. As long as
the
customer knows up front what it costs, they can make an
informed
decision.
Books are heavy critters and we have some that weigh more than
2kg
(almost 5 pounds). Postage on those can be nearly $50.00AU. We
had a
specialized medical dictionary/lexicon for sale at $28.00
ordered by
a US doctor. He ordered it and paid the shipping at that rate.
Australia Post's "Printed Matter" rates used to include air mail
delivery. Has that been abandoned now?
If you are referring to Express Post Platinum, that can only be used
for documents like contracts and such. There's no longer an Economy
Air with Australia Post. That went away in September 2007. Only
regular Air Mail and Express Post Platinum remain as the
international air methods for posting. Within Australia, things are
different with single rate satchels and Express Post. There's also
the surface mail which can take months and months. Our customers
never, ever ask for that. The savings aren't worth it. Plus, surface
doesn't cover all countries.
We use something called Skippy Post when we can. It's an alternative
posting to most countries in the world that can save our customers
lots of money. Mrs Ray only charges $2.00 over actual shipping costs
for books no matter how we ship them so if they don't mind using
Skippy Post, that's what we use to save them money. It costs a
little in the form of 5 extra days in shipping but it's still under
2 weeks to most places on planet earth.
