Charge of the light brigade

I was out on the 'Busa this afternoon, minding my own business,
tooling round the lanes when a pair of sports bikes appeared
in my mirrors. I winked left to signal them by, but no, they stayed
behind me. The road to the water tower has undulations and
turns that don't suit the old girl that well, you're forever having
to haul her up and flop over for the next bend, not her kind
of terrain at all. So, the boys spin up close, brake hard, overtake
each other, and generally take the piss, hands off the bars
doing shrugs. We're in sight of the water tower when they go
by. It's a right, left, right, spin up, a short left and right into
the roundabout. Onward the 600s, they take the Harwich road
and I follow them. They tuck down and open up, I can hear
the howling above the lazy rumble of the 'Busa. First gap I see,
I click down two and fire it past the toys, past a string of five
cars. Rolling it on I hit 140 before the dual carriageway, hard on
the brakes, slice the roundabout and bubble along the bypass
at 70. Speedy and Zippy arrive hot and bothered, all screaming
revs and scorching brakes, too late. There's the short straight
into town and I click into second and take off, literally. I ease the
wheely down at the 30 speed limit, decorously ride past the
parked cars overlooking the boat basin and park up at the cafe.
Speedy and Zippy pay for my tea. Bless.
