Re: To the misc.writing party who emailed me about the "disturbed individual"

Tut, tut, Bill -- one really should learn how to spell-check
for
words like *aspirations* and *primitive* before criticising
someone else's work.

(Acquiring some basic knowledge of grammar would not go amiss,
either -- for instance, one would learn that a question mark
does
not require the addition of a full-stop.)
In good faith.
Bernie.

Please. A typo lame -- the lowliest flame of all.

A strange reaction in view of what you wrote above, wouldn't you
say?

Not at all. A typo-lame is the lowliest
flame of all. As the Internet World
Flaming Champion four years straight,
of course it would annoy me. And your
slipping, sliding and tap dancing trying to
prove a typo-lame is not a typo-lame is
futile.

Come back and pester me when you have 150,000
Google hits, ...

It would never be my intention or desire to accumulate "Google
hits" (whatever they happen to be).

Don't worry. As feeble as your writing appears
to be, you will never have to worry about
excessive follow-up to your posts.

Mr, Typo-pouncing, non-writing newsgroup
nobody.

There are recognisable differences between typos and spelling
errors, Bill. Yours were spelling errors -- inexcusable in one
criticising another's writing ability.

Fiddlesticks. Ridiculously, you are now claiming
that someone who makes occasional typos should
not criticize the WRITING of others. You might
argue that someone who leaves typos in his or
her posts should not typo-pounce others. That
would make a bit more sense. Instead, all you
are doing is showing that you fail to grasp the
difference between typing and writing. Sorry
to shock you with such a new and frightening
concept, but there exists a huge
difference between the two.

(You should take care with your assumptions, too; they can be
dangerous. E.g. you were wrong to assume me a Mr.)

As for the "non-writing newsgroup nobody" claim, you may well be
right. (On the other hand, when one's rubbed shoulders with
princes and prime ministers, everything else bcomes rather
insignificant, innit?)

One bit of advice, by the way. Typos

can be proofread out of a document easily by
intelligent readers,

Agreed -- but they should not have to be.

so my Usenet approach has

always been to write and hit the send key, and
let my readers' minds take care of any typos I
have missed.

As I said above: When criticising the work of others, typos can
be excused -- spelling errors can't.

Anyone who is capable of doing an advanced
Google search can easily see how spurious
your argument is. In fact, today I used
<palmer.william@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> as poster
and searched for my posts with the word
"primitive" in them. I came up with
10 hits. The only one that had
"primative" was the post with the
typo. That proves you a liar. If I
could not spell "primitive" the ten other
posts would also have the "primative"
error. Now I am going to sit back and
get ready for some good laughs, because
it is going to be great fun watching you
try to wriggle out of that one. (I forgot
to check on "aspiration"; I will no doubt
steamroller you with my research on that
on later.}

But when you write NOTHING,

then all the proofreading you have time for and
all the editorial polish you can muster will
do you no good at all. Put THAT in your pipe
and smoke it!

I? Smoke a pipe? Another assumption, Bill?

Wrong again.

Bernie.
