Possibly. Much like Sylvia posturing as an expert on matters of
which she knows nothing at all.
Here's what I actually said about my military status, as opposed to
what Zero fantasized I said but can't of course cite:
i never said i could cite anything, i said: IIRC.
i checked back in *some* of the threads (which is where i found the
FOIA -- 21 business days hilarity) to see what gave me that
impression, and i think some of it came about from your initial pirate
talk with the scumbag which i may have perceived as Navy banter of
some sort -- i wasn't reading ALL of those military posts (not my
expertise and i said so in some of the posts where i asked some of my
get-to-point questions here and there)...
so perhaps i was combining my past experiences with your posing-as-
experienced-expert nature (which you do on almost every subject you
argue)
Examples? Because it seems to me you have to redefine your definition
of posing-as-experienced-expert, given that all I ever do is argue on
the basis of what I know and believe, and because I often (though of
course not always) argue about things that I've thought about, have
spent some time researching, or in which I have some special
expertise. For example, when I discuss technical subjects with you, I
write as an electrical engineer and sometime inventor and
entrepreneur. I may not be writing about my particular specialties,
and I don't claim to know everything or anything like, but it is my
profession.
and melding that somehow with my utter astonishment that you
would be so stupid to be defending the scumbag who dirtied this group
with his anti-social "P" comments as well as his cowardly refusals to
admit the truth about them.
which continues to this day.
I have no idea what you mean by "P" comments.
[...]
Kinda weird, that, someone who postures as your shipmate by mentioning
that he was a conscientious objector.

And here's what I said about my knowledge of the Navy, as opposed to
what Zero fantasized I said but can't of course cite:

"I haven't seen all the accusations [made against Ray], and knowing
little of naval procedures I'm not qualified to judge some of them."
http://groups.google.com/group/misc.writing/browse_thread/thread/b579...
Which makes me about as much like Sylvia as a justice of the Supreme
Court is like a circus clown.
nope, you're the same in that regard, you're simply taking Ray's side.
Nope. I present a balanced view, and try to stay carefully within the
bounds of what I know. Sylvia is just looking for ammo, and she
doesn't much care whether it makes sense.
that's why you pulled the "not qualified to judge", to discredit
Sylvia.
Zero, do you ever look before you leap? I said I wasn't qualified to
judge because I'm not qualified to judge: I was never in the Navy and
I don't know a CACO from a cuckoo.
Sylvia has never to claimed to be an expert, she just searches the web
and maybe asks some people who have experience, i have no idea.
Funny, isn't it, how the same people who protest loudly about how
others make "some sort of claim to be an expert of some sort" are the
ones who spout patent nonsense and baseless speculation.
i didn't.
in several places i clearly said "IIRC", and "is my recollection
mistaken?"
or somesuch.
did you forget already?
Yes, but I looked, and
Ray:
That's not what a shipmate is.
Zero:
Josh was posturing as one.
and, IIRC, just like he always does, he made some sort of claim to be
an expert of some sort, citing his own experiences.
Which is to say that you said without qualification that I was
posturing as a shipmate when I'd said I was a CO, and then recalled
incorrectly that I had made a claim to be an expert of some sort when
in fact I'd said that I wasn't, and then said that I always claimed to
be an expert when in fact I'd just said that I wasn't. All this after
suggesting that my appearance here wasn't an accident when it was and
asking whether I'd coordinated with Ray, when in fact it was an
accident and I hadn't heard from Ray in at least a year when I came
back here and didn't coordinate anything.
Which kinda made me wonder. I mean, it's not just you, and as you say,
you did qualify most of what you said. But having been accused of
everything here from being classist to not being part black, I gotta
wonder how valid the accusations made against others are.
