.Yer point?
Conversing with Ashby.
Oh. Thought ya posted to a discussion.
I did. In response to Ashby, because I wanted to converse with him.
That qualifies as discussion, yes?
Is a point required for that?
AFAIC, ya could have bopped in and posted, "Hey, Ashby, didja know
that Ivory (tm) Soap floats?"
Yes. I also could have said, to Ashby or anyone who wished to join,
"Sufficient to deploy naval craft, possibly."
See, Ashby's comment was implying that a tropical storm, or a Cat 1
hurricane, or a named storm that had BEEN a hurricane but had
weakened to a TS would be insufficient for deployment. I offered my
considered opinion that naval vessels will deploy for any strong
storm system in order to protect the ship and pier.
I asked because it seemed as if you
thought you had made a point in your reply to the latest post in
the "Did a hurricane strike Norfolk in the 1970's?" debate, but it
didn't follow.
Of course it follows. Several hurricanes approached or even "hit"
Norfolk in the seventies. Agnes had been a hurricane and it "hit"
Norfolk, albeit as a weaker version of its earlier hurricane self.
Dunno if Agnes would've been sufficient for naval vessels to
skedaddle. The other storms, including Dawn which was a Cat 1
hurricane *approaching* Norfolk in the seventies (and would've called
for a deployment) also qualified, in spite of Ashby's implication (or
my inferrence of Ashby's intent) that they were piddling and not
worthy of mention.
* I said Haddad was lying, that no hurricanes hit Norfolk then.
I know you did. But that has little to do with what I'm talking
about. You're being a tad sensitive where it is not necessary to be
sensitive. It's all about Stan, not you.
* "Dead Cook" claimed that some 1970's hurricanes did hit the
city.
Yes, he did. I'm impressed with your powers of observation and
ability to recall, however that, too, is marginal with respect to my
comment to *Ashby*.
* Mr. Ashby pointed out that the storms that did go through
Norfolk during the 1970's were only tropical storms.
Or hurricanes approaching Norfolk. Or had been named as hurricanes,
or considered hurricanes when approaching. Sufficient for naval
craft to deploy, regardless.
You replied:
Sufficient to deploy naval craft, possibly.
Yes, I did.
Hours earlier, Haddad had pretended that I, instead, had claimed
that a Navy ship would not have left port because of a storm:
"So what. You are wrong. We did get underway for
a hurricane. Period."
A weasel move that, if someone bit, might lead the discussion away
from Haddad's havin' been caught lying again about his military
service, this time regarding an imaginary a hurricane.
I have been avoiding your obsession, Sylvia.
Your reply about tropical storms:
"Sufficient to deploy naval craft, possibly."
... sounded as if you were leading to a similar point--that it was
possible that the ship in question would have had reason to leave
port to avoid a storm after all. It struck me as odd, so I asked.
Oh. Well, if you had paid attention to my posting habits over the
past bazillion years, you might have noticed that I tend to pick up
*a* bit of a conversation or comment and respond directly and only to
*that* bit. It's frustrated the crap out of peeps who've really
rather talked about their obsessions, their conversations, and they
claim I am "moving the goalposts" when I refuse to play their game
their way. But it's what amuses me. I see or hear something that
strikes me as funny, I respond to *it* and not to the entire lengthy,
time-consuming, exhausting thread or flame war. I make my own way
and amuse myself, for my purposes.
Had I wished to discuss the Haddad Obsession, or the possibility that
Ray had deployed on an unnamed carrier in the seventies in response
to a hurricane that actually hit Norfolk *as a hurricane* in the
seventies, and uprooted at least one tree, pushing it 100 yards or
more to smack his parked car, yadda yadda, I would've quoted more and
responded to more of the thread, rather than just Ashby's one little
quote.
So. Now you know my deeply held secret, and in the future when you
see me responding to just one comment by one person, you'll
understand I am starting my own conversation/discussion with that
person for my own purposes.
Thus, you may retract your fangs, put away your talons, and go on
about your business with Ray.
Gotta go to work now. Vacation's over.
Hope your day is more lovely than mine will be.
