right big Sis?
Nine, actually.
same as my other mw big sis, Pat Marcello, right?
Hyland (raevn), others.
mw's class of 70
I was class of 1969, 16 when I graduated. Such a prodigy. Such potential.
Mais ou sont les neiges d'antan?
i'd be in mw's class of 79 if i hadn't dropped out that last year.
or was it the year before, i forget.
Do you have vivid memories of it all? Where were you when the IBM PC was announced?
The Goodwill gives a senior discount starting at 55.
iirc, Sizzler does too. Others. Whatever. The one I've been waiting for
is the Goodwill. Depending on the store, you get 10-20% certain days of
the week. Yowz.
sensible shopping.
do you do the garage/yardsale circuit as well?
No. If I come across one while we're walking, sure, but I don't look for them.
.... but I did pick up a sturdy ersatz milk crate (black) that I found in a pile of other stuff on the sidewalk when we were out walking last night. Carried it home. Knew it would come in handy some day.
Turned out one of the corners on the crate on the deck where I keep my planter of tarragon snapped today and could no longer support the tarragon. Viola! I had a replacement available.
The Guy had given me this "Do you really need to drag that home? What are you going to do with it?" yesterday.
"See?" I told him today.
much wider range of product quality and selection to be found, to be
sure.
more character.
less bullshit.
better deals.
but you probably have to be more patient if you're in the market for a
specific thing than you would if you shopped at the regular stores.
True. If I were looking for a simple black leather belt, it would take a while to find one compared to stopping off at Macy's or some other Westfield store. If what I really wanted was a diamond tiara, I could look forever at the Goodwill and never find one.
But if you just like to poke around and see what's there, what's possible, Oh, look! an old Beatles poster ... Here's a nice salad bowl .... Ooooh. A long Thai silk skirt -- purple with silver thread design. I could use that cloth to ... Well, the Goodwill's the hapnin place. I find treasures. I'm happy.
Back in the day when I dressed for work and wore a finer set of clothes than the black Levis and corduroy shirts that make my wardrobe these days, I used to buy relatively new and unworn Evan Picone suits for $9 and and Ferragamo shoes for $8 at the Goodwill -- substantially less than I would've paid if I were buying new. Suited me.
Easily entertained. The Goodwill entertains me.
