Mr Maugham
Who?
Essex, Somerset, one hick county's very much like another.
Or Middlesex, which has rather confused connotations of its own.
And which is a) totally irrelevant to my answer since our man does
not reside there, nor was there a famous writer called William
Middlesex Maugham, b) no longer in existence as a county and c)
indicative of your own morbid sexual preoccupations.
Really? How could you possibly presume that? You're getting as bad
as Sylvia, John. Why did you assign sexual connotations to my
comment? No additional word was required. If you must know my
motivation, I offer the following.
I have setting next to me a steel engraving dated 1833, hand colored
and framed with a certificate of authenticity affixed to the back of
its frame. It is a beautiful map of Middlesex by R. Creighton and
engraved by T. Starling of London which came to mind when you
mentioned the counties you did. Thus, the mention was not sexual
but, as per normal, I extracted that sort of reaction from your own
preoccupation. My words have power to give you pause, John. Perhaps
you should heed that call to pause in the future.
Then perhaps you would care to explain what is so "confused" about
Messrs Creighton and Starling's map, which seems an admirable piece of
cartography to me, or the ex-county itself. Come to that, what
"connotations" you were drawing between the map and either RJM or the
counties I mentioned that were so confused. No, Ray, the reaction I
had was to your words, and to the context both of this thread and of
your previous history. A history which includes a preoccupation with,
among others, RJM's sexlife and domestic arrangements.
You should have paused, John. You're like a little boy in first
grade pointing at the teacher when she says, "Middlesex," and saying
"Ooh, the teacher said SEX!" to the other little boys who giggle
over it. The fact is, I knew someone would come along and interpret
my comment as you did.
Ah, so you *were* aware of the sexual connotations of what you posted,
and chose to post it nonetheless. It wasn't solely about some
nineteenth century map, but another of your cunningly laid traps. Now
what does it say about you that you choose to lay traps using sexually
ambiguous phrasing? You don't need to answer that in public, but in my
view you'd do well to examine yourself closely and honestly on the
matter.
Note that my words could have been taken many
ways but, like my use of the letter P, you chose a path from your
own head and your own "morbid sexual preoccupations."
The confusion I alluded to was your confusion over Robert's name.
No it wasn't. The confused connotations you mentioned were those
associated with "Middlesex". Look, it's right up there with 5 >'s in
front of it. "Or Middlesex, which has rather confused connotations of
its own." Those are the confusion I asked you about, and as usual you
try to bluster out of answering. Doesn't wash.
What you did, as so often, was to try and pull a joke out of a hat,
fall flat on your arse and then attempt to recover with bullshit.
Sadly for you, the fool here is you.
Possibly, but I'm trying for Lear.
john
