IAWTP, except that it seems to me that Zen has two modes. I'll get
SLAPped for this, but he displays his usual vitriol, quite entertaining
at time, when he wants to, but when he's trying to be helpful, he puts
that on the back burner and uses only the occasional snarky remark to
remind you who he is.
I was mostly kidding about slapping him for being an arrogant prick,
since that mode seems primarily reserved for MW.
Overall, I will guarantee you that Xen isn't at all like his USENET
personna. He can switch it on and off at will as most of us can.
Anthony is probably the only one here who is exactly as he is here.
I expect that any of us that submit a piece to him (and mine's not done
yet, cuz I bite rocks) will learn something useful.
Yah, though it would take damn little from him to teach an ignorant
fellow like me something.
That reads differently than you intended, I'm sure, but Xen is a
terrific editor. The content of his blog is a bit far off the mark
for the casual reader but his grammar, punctuation and flow of
information is as good as it can be. He knows it. I know it.
He likes to discuss things on his blog that interest him. Most of
those things fall into an area I find unreadable. Thus, I respect
his ability to write opinon and edit. I trust those abilities 100%
but don't read much of his blog because it simply doesn't interest
me. I base my comments here regarding his blog on that.
Except for Hay-dad.
Who knows? Who will ever know? I suspect that if Ray chose to send
him a piece, it might turn out that he'd gain something from that, but
I'd be very surprised if it ever happened.
I haven't written a piece of fiction since I was in high school and
that was for an assignment. If I don't submit anything to him it's
not because I don't like Xen (I do) nor is it because I believe him
to be anything but a good editor. It would be because I have no
burning notion to hammer out fiction at the moment. That could
change. One never knows.
I've never seen an example of his fiction writing or fiction
editing. I suppose this workshop would be more of an ongoing
critique by Xen than a full edit and I've seen no example of that
from him either. It then follows that I have no confidence that he
can do it based on evidence alone. As a person to person analysis,
I'm quite certain that Xen will rise to the occasion and do a fine
job.
