Hope and Zen. And she wants to pretend it's just a big coinkydink and
that the only problem is how I read it. That's crap.
I agree that it's crap, but not that she's pretending. She's making a
point. A point that has some merit under certain circumstances.
Yeah, stupid niggers getting all uppity about people calling them
niggers. It's only funnin'!
"A point that has some merit under *certain circumstances*."
Would you care to elucidate on the circumstances in which her point
would hold?
I gave one example. You snipped it from the outset. You find it.
But not this one. "I agree that it's crap."
The point being:
We do,
as a society, tend to go overboard in quite silly directions when we
attempt to correct our ills.
Do we? Do we do it often? Or are we often accused of doing it by
people who simply don't appreciate the efforts we make to cure our
ills?
Some flu was going around a while back. There wasn't enough vaccine for
everyone. The media was going all why don't we have enough vaccine and
making such a big stink about it and people were lining up in droves to
try to get there first until they had to limit it to children and the
elderly. Or such was the impression I was left with. Don't ask me to
find the exact flu or the exact date or whatever. My brain doesn't work
that way and can only give you what I remember of the overall
situation.
Maybe we should have enough vaccine for everyone, and maybe going all
hysterical about it will fix it for the future, but I tend to the
opinion that our government, our science, and our technology cannot fix
everything and that some things are left to chance. We've become a sue
happy, fix it now, take care of me people, expecting to live a life
where no one gets offended and someone can always be blamed for things
that go wrong.
So that's one example in addition to the one I already gave.
Another example. The feminist movement had some women going to the
extreme that women don't need men and it got to the point that many
homemakers were ashamed to say they were stay-at-home moms. And no, I
can't cite this, either, I grew up during that time and can only give
you what I remember.
Yeah, that's right. Because it's much better to say nothing, do
nothing, and wait till we're lynching each other before we start
giving a ***.
Don't put words in my mouth. I was not speaking about gekko's argument
regarding words
Try to stay on topic or at least coherent. No one can read your mind
so if you are only addressing some vague notion swimming about in your
noggin, we cannot know unless you say so.
I was on topic, and if you'd bothered to take note of the example I
gave you would have comprehended what I meant.
I was seeing another idea in what she said that went
beyond the discussion about racist words. We do, as a society, tend to
go overboard in our attempt to correct our ills.
Do we? Give a genuine example of doing so.
My country is currently going through a patriotic fervor such as I have
never witnessed. Terrorism is bad, yes, we're scared, but how do we
respond? With reason? With diplomacy? Hell, no. We put out our flags
and pass ignorant judgement and don't even bother to question the
actions of our government. No, not everyone does this. Thank goodness
there are quite a few voices of dissent. But enough do to make us
dangerous to ourselves, let alone the countries we target.
Maybe that's necessary
to bring about change, I don't know. We need to get our heads knocked
in to find some sense. Seems a stupid way to have to learn, though.
Do people learn without head-knocking? How can they learn?
If I knew that I could rule the world, couldn't I?
I'm far happier to be on the side of those who "overreact" to the
persecution of minorities than those who provide comfort and support
to those who perpetrate it.
Good.
I don't mind being accused of pissing,
moaning and frothing.
You'd be in a sorry state of upset if that bothered you, wouldn't you?
I'd be in a sorry state of upset if I let online fuckheads bother me
period.
Ummm...yeah. That was the point.
