Woe is him

A male friend of mine who lives with a young woman of a different race than
himself confided in me this morning that she (his lady friend) is with
child. For some reason, both of them were totally surprised. This is hard
to understand because both are adults and know whence cometh babies; yet,
neither she nor he had taken birth control precautions in the ten or so
months that they have been co-habitating.

Following her *discovery* of pregnancy, a loud fuss broke out last night
between them, and she packed a bag and went to spend the night with her
sister. I predict they will reunite before the stars appear this evening,
but their cometogetherness may have its hard knocks. For one thing, he is
an automotive mechanic between periods of employment, and she is a student
in college. So, money will be a short-supply commodity at a time when it
will be most needed.

I filled his tank with gas and told him to apply for food stamps.
