That's a complaint, but it's not a criticism. The only way to pitch
writing at Americans is to make it American-specific, which would not
only be the same complaint from the opposite angle, but would be a
disastrous absurdity in the hands of a British-English writer.

There are Americans, incidentally, who are able to make sense of
UK-specific writing, just as we do with Roth, Ford, Proulx etc. If
they can do it, then you have no excuse. Broaden your horizons. Look
beyond the end of your driveway.
