Yikes. White wine != sherry. Grapes != raisins.

Yes, that's where I was going.

I could rummage around in my cookbooks but ...

No need. I'm sure you won't find it.

The soul of American cookery is

Burgers.

That, too.

Then you won't want to hear about the szechuan green beans and the grilled pork chops.

You're damned right there.

Polenta tonight.

Turn off the heat after twenty-five minutes of cooking and stirring. Throw in chopped garlic, chopped fresh basil, grated Parmesan cheese, and a dash of butter. Stir. Serve.

Just tell me where in the grocery store . . . in what aisle . . . one will find the tahini.

I made a run last night. Needed parmasian cheese and tahini. There is no tahini. Clerks no not what your asking when you say 'tahini'. I came back with the parmasian cheese, a roll of fluorescent yellow bubble gum, bubbles, a pink jump rope, and a cloth lizard. (I was traveling with my pack.)

The parmasisan cheese is worthless without the tahini. I had a corn dog.

And then, I told a 3 yr. old that she could go outside and blow bubbles, this was her maiden trip Going Outside by herself, she was going to sit on the front steps and blow bubbles, and then the house was noisy, with many children and dogs, and, if the truth be known, I was playing on the internet, and I forgot about her, until I found her, sobbing, clutching her bubbles, because she is so small she cannot open the front door by herself. She'd been left, alone, outside, on the front steps, in the broiling hot sun, and she couldn't get it. And she had sobbed so long that her hair was wet with sweat. And she had two heat circles on her little cheeks.

I am scum. Please don't tell her mother.
