I made a major expedition to Marathon late this afternoon.
I returned a non-working headset gadget at Radio Shack and, I
hope, impressed upon them that they ought not sell it to anyone
else. I bought a gallon of milk and checked out the photo center
at Walgreens. I'm cautiously optimistic about their digital
photo processing. They use a Konica processor with wet print
capability and turn out glossies in an hour. The cost is
competitive. The only drawback is size; anything larger than
8x10 goes off the rock. They can print 16x20 and 20x30, though,
so I might just try one. The Library was closed for Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday in deference to Wilma. Looks like I'm
reading off the annex shelves. Home Depot still had none of the
track lights I want. I returned the non-working TV universal
remote at KMart and, I hope, impressed upon them that they ought
not sell it to anyone else. I'm not sure, though, because many
of the employees are bused down from Miami and are surly and
uncaring. And I saw the bank manager we met here in March. She
remembered me, perhaps because what other Northerner would be
dumb enough to come TO Florida in time for a hurricane.
There was no traffic. None. I coulda turned left
anywhere(1). Gas stations were open and some of them had one or
two cars at the pumps. Prices are stable. The 10 state parks in
the Keys have closed. BeAlls was closed but most all of the
other stores were still open.
I plan to fart around here tonight, watch the weather, and
prolly leave tomorrow. Or not. With no idea when or where Wilma
is going to make the turn, I may not leave here until Sunday.

When a storm can blow down your house or sink your boat
under you or wash the seed out of your field, you watch the
weather.

What planet are we talking about? Even the WFOR guy,
reporting from Islamorada didn't say that when he reported that
US1 was jammed (one car was passing behind him) and the gas
stations had loooooong lines (there were no cars in the station
where he filmed). He did pronounce it IZ lah mor AY da, though.
I saw him at the KO at MM53 later. He's very short.
> Say, wasn't this thread about the weather?
Nah, it's about shooting the moon.

(1) Turning across traffic on US 1 in the Keys is next to
impossible when the tourists are here.
