The Dow opened this morning with a nice little trap for the unaware: At 10:25 Eastern time it showed a gain of about 42 points to 10,281. Now a little more than two hours later it has gradually lost half of that gain and sit at 10,259. Those unwise investors have seen their wide-eyed efforts dwindle.
The market may rally some and help those investors recoup some of their money; but it will be of no consequence in the long run because the trend downward will continue for a short financial season.
Remember, a close below last Thursday's recorded mid-trading-day dip to 10,218 will be a sure signal of its continuing decline. Watch for that. It has not happened yet, but it is on the horizon. Hang on to your cash, because a sudden rise in stock prices will be meaningless.
