Well ... I'm a little bit overweight ... but not like some of the tubs
of goo I see walking around the truck stops. I always wonder when
they come out with a study like this how truck drivers, cab drivers,
airline pilots etc. fit into the equation.

Chris it's a fool's errand to try and relate news stories to reality,
especially about health matters. The reason almost all health stories make
it into the news is because the "preliminary results" will alarm everyone or
because the results are a direct contradiction to the conventional wisdom.
This last reason is why year after year we see story after story saying X
will get you, No, X will save you, No, X really will get you. No, X is the
worst substance on earth, rinse and repeat.

If the story is true but there is nothign you can do about it, what's the
point of getting worried? If the story isn't true, what's the point of
getting worried about it. If the news editor had received a press release
earlier in the day saying giraffe poop smooths wrinked from the faces of
Hollywood stars, that would have been the big health story of the day.
Editors and reporters don't even know how to distinguish the unimportant
from the important or how to spot a fake group from a real group issuing
press releases.

On September 11th 2001, the government's (1970s) security procedures all
failed, and the only good news of the day came from self-reliant citizens
(on Flight 93) using their own wits and a willingness to act.

On December 25th 2009, the government's (post-9/11) security procedures all
failed, and the only good news came once again from alert individuals.
