Just wanted to introduce myself. I am retired from the white-collar world,
and decided to enter my daddy's profession by attending a 6 month
community/technical college program to get my CDL. I have all of my
endorsements, and about 8 months total driving experience between school
and
my new employment as a company driver with a major hauler. I am OTR 48
states, primarily hauling 53' vans. My goal is to gain the time and
experience to leverage into a regional run with one of the more local
companies nearer to home. I love driving, and enjoy being a professional
driver. My only regret is not changing careers sooner :-)

I'll be lurking for awhile to get the feel of things. BTW, I use my real
name and email addy, in case anyone really cared :-)

First, I've done that bit with "leverage into a regional run" and it took me
from October 2003 to November 2005. I knew another driver that made the
transition from OTR to local in just over a year but everything went right
for him.

Second, this newsgroup, along with most every other newsgroup out there is
dying or being replaced by other things. But as dead as this newsgroup is
the off topic threads still keep starting. BTW most of the OT threads you
see on this newsgroup are cross-post.

Third, if you have a CB radio in your truck you will hear other drivers make
bad jokes or tell lies about other drivers. Well, that same truck driver
stuff happens here.
