Tony, feel free to build your own electric car like the Tesla. The story
behind the EV-1 isn't fully told in the legend of "Who killed the electric
car". There is more to the story but even if it was a conspiracy to kill
the kar by evil forces anyone is free to build a replacement or competitor.
Even when John Rockefeller and Standard Oil controlled 90% of fuel
consumption in the US they were unable to prevent Edison and electric light
from taking over their market in lighting. Lighting was the primary use of
petroleum for decades, until eletric light.
There are forty million more rumors of inventions being bought up by The
Conspiracy, Inc and kept from consumers than real examples. But let's grant
that it does happen. A patent only lasts for a few years. Unless The
Conspiracy, Inc is buying patents, buying inventions, and killing everyone
that knows of the ideas that created the invention or is filed in public
patents their efforts will have little effect.
If people spend their time worrying about the wrong thing they will be
ill-equipped for reality which usually sends them deeper into conspiracy
theories, and the vicious cycle just revs up from there.
Nobody needs permission to invent cars or fuel. Nobody has to sell those if
they don't want to sell them. How would the world look one bit different if
this "buy it hide it" idea were 100% false? Be suspicious when an idea
depends on nobody ever knowing about it to explain things.

Tony, the increase in Russian oil production has more than compensated
for the actual increase in Chinese consumption. There have been a lot
of wild projections about future Chinese consumption that gloom and
doomers use to predict the end of the world, but reality is less
dramatic.
Well, I'm certainly not a "gloom and doomer", but it's a factor that
cannot be denied. In fact, experts have stated that because the
Government of that country is controlling and subsidizing the price of
fuel to it's citizens, and consuming more of it, it is artificially
keeping oil prices up. When they finally did raise their prices a few
months ago, it briefly caused oil prices to drop.
Oil is a world commodity therefore the individual supply of one area
and the individual consumption of one area are irrelevant. The total
supply and demand are what counts, just as in the game ":musical
chairs", it doesn't matter the importance on any of the players or the
relative comfort of one chair versus another.
You or anyone else can develop any alternative to gas/diesel at any
moment. It's not the oil companies' job to develop what we will use
next. They haven't let us down by not switching to some other fuel.
We didn't start using gasoline and diesel because of some farsighted
committe meeting and an agreement between suppliers and consumers. We
are using those fuels because they were cheap and available in
quantity. Gasoline was essentially a waste product from refining oil
into kerosene for kerosene lamps. We wind up with gas/diesel just
like we will switch to another fuel; everybody tried everything until
one choice was seen as an easy way out.
Who killed the electric car? The EV-1 was kicking ass, and every one of
them were pulled off the road and destroyed.
The oil companies are not going to become this generation's buggy whip,
for as long as they have the power and the money to kill any new
technology out there.
Story after story has filtered through, and various individuals have
made lots of cash and quietly retired after their ideas and inventions
were purchased by oil companies.
The only reason we have fuel efficient cars now, is due to mandates that
forced them to be brought to market.
