system ... except for Pluto. Yet there is one on the way to Pluto as
of this moment ( the New Horizons mission ).
I think another manned mission to the moon is a waste of time and
money. What's the point. What can we learn from placing a man on the
moon ( again ) , or sending a manned mission to Mars, when robot
explores can do it much more cheaply without the risk of life ?
I'm not sure what you mean by another ' world '. The nearest star is
4 and a half light years away. Man travel to such places is science
fiction for the time being.

preaching to us about how WE need to cut OUR fuel consumption is just
ridiculous.
California and the liberal nut jobs out there are a perfect example.
If California wanted to get tough on idling by saying we could only
use APU's ... fine. If they want to promote electric cars and bio-
fuels ... fine. But just to come out and say NO IDLING PERIOD because
it's causing global warming. Oh pulleeease.
They need to take a practical approach to such matters.

it, Helium 3.
Helium 3 is a GREAT fuel for fusion reactors, and could provide
virtually unlimited amounts of cheap, clean electricity.

Um ... pardon me ... but for the past 50 years or so the concept of
power plants using fusion energy has been theoretical. Fusion
programs are in the experimental stages now. They are talking about
how IF everything goes well, fusion power plants MAY be possible in
the next 50 years.
I'd like to see an accountant make the numbers work here. First let's
spend trillions of dollars to make fusion power work. Then let's
spend another trillion to mine Helium 3 on the moon and ship it back
to Earth. And then we will sell electricity from fusion power plants
to consumers at cheap rates. As long as they don't run the washer and
dryer at peak hours mind you.
Chris
Ahh but see we CAN make fusion reactors work, the problem is they just don't work for very long because we are using deuterium-tritium as fuel. That creates hard radiation that tears up the walls of the reactor and makes them very short lived. If we had to replace the boiler in a coal fired plant every couple of days they wouldn't be economical either!
With a Helium 3 fueled plant that doesn't happen and the lining can last for decades. That being the case and with a couple of hundred pounds so of Helium 3 being enough to power a large city for a year that starts making the economics look much more attractive.
