You mean MAN hasn't been to another planet.
That would be "we". :-)
"We" haven't reached another planet.
( the moon is not a planet )
Which is why I skipped it.
"We" -have- reached the moon.
Robot explorers have explored every planet in this solar
system ... except for Pluto. Yet there is one on the way to Pluto as
of this moment ( the New Horizons mission ).
I think another manned mission to the moon is a waste of time and
money. What's the point.
Not that I care (about moon missions), but, we're going to have to live on the moon before we can live on other planets.
The point I was making was that results of research are rarely instantaneous.
Bio-fuel may suck now, but it may be the foundation for a future success.
Or it may just be a learning exercise.
At least people are trying.
It's arguably a leading front on the war on terrorism.
What can we learn from placing a man on the
moon ( again ) , or sending a manned mission to Mars, when robot
explores can do it much more cheaply without the risk of life ?
Because: http://www.bustedtees.com/shirt/finderskeepers/male <weg>
Sooner or later, we're gonna have to fly in space, and we gotta learn how.
It's more limited at this time, by physiological restraints, than engineering ones.
Plus, a lot of other research goes on in space that can't as easily be accomplished on earth.
I'm not sure what you mean by another ' world '.
I only know of one "world", myself, this one.
Any other world we find will be "another".
The nearest star is
4 and a half light years away. Man travel to such places is science
fiction for the time being.
As was space flight was once, and, that's in the life time of some posters here.
What do you think Copernicus would think of deep space probes?
People were once put to death for believing what he proved.
Until we develop energy alternatives, which will take time, we can't drive
the Arabs back into the sand.
The road to discovery is paved with what didn't work, first.
I agree ... but I don't agree with Al Gore's and the liberals " Doom
And Gloom " approach to such matters. " Limousine " Democrats flying
around in personal jets and living in mansions ... all the while
preaching to us about how WE need to cut OUR fuel consumption is just
ridiculous.
It's hypocritical.
But it's accurate, not ridiculous.
I don't remember the exact number, but we consume more than 4 times as much energy per citizen as other comparable societies.
What's -really- funny is that we bitch about the price of fuel, when we pay more for diet coke and bottled water.
We pay about half what the rest of the world does (for -any- energy), and always have, and take it for granted..
California and the liberal nut jobs out there are a perfect example.
If California wanted to get tough on idling by saying we could only
use APU's ... fine. If they want to promote electric cars and bio-
fuels ... fine. But just to come out and say NO IDLING PERIOD because
it's causing global warming. Oh pulleeease.
They need to take a practical approach to such matters.
We should start shutting off those idling reefers on their frozen goods (chicken and pork).
Gotta watch the environment, right?

Does anybody here really think that taking away the guns will stop
killing? Or knives, or icepicks, or chains, or ropes, or baseball
bats, or poisons, or cars & trucks. People are gonna kill people,
and they'll always think of a new weapon if you take away the old ones.
And just because I carry a potential weapon doesn't mean I intend to
commit murder, or that I may be tempted to commit murder.
I often carry a big ugly knife. Lots of my friends do too.
I have never heard of anyone being tempted to use the knife on
anyone just because they have it with them. You gotta be in the
mood to do the killing and you use what's at hand. -Jeff Cooper
