Ok, but I have a question about a "railroad donkey engine." Is that the
diesel engine that turns the generator in a diesel locomotive? It
trains.like it is and that is why I thought of Catalina Island.
Donkeys are locomotives used to pull cars around a switchyard to build
Thanks for the information and that could be what Catalina Island uses for
Electrical Power. I know they use a locomotive engine but I don't remember
if it was one of the smaller locomotives or not.
Using a locomotive engine to generate power on Catalina Island cost a
fortune, but SCE (Southern California Edison) has to charge the customers on
Catalina Island the same price people on the mainland are charged. I hear
it was becase of some law.
I've already searched the internet for any photos of the Power Company on
Catalina Island and couldn't find any. I don't remember a whole lot of the
place, but I remember how to get there from the Harbor and that it was just
up the road from a bunch of Quansit huts.
I'd like to go back there some day, but I doubt if it will ever happen.
