there other stuff that makes flatbeds that big of a deal?

Flatbeds have to spend a lot of time chaining down, strapping down, and
tarping the loads regardless of the weather. Plus they have to continously
stop and check the load to make sure it is secure.

My first week as a trucker I was with a flatbed company, and because of
what all had to be done, I felt it wasn't for me. Tarps can weigh over a
hundred pounds and when you don't need them, where ya gonna put it when you
have no room? I also did not like having to crawl over loads just to secure
it. Specially when it was extremely windy out. Or in the rain.

Give me a box trailer any time.
