Re: GPS Unit

I like to use my GPS hooked up to my computer & then use Streets &
Trips to create my route. This way I can see where I am at on the map
on a nice 17" Screen sitting in the Passnger seat. (May have to get
one of those laptop mounts for between the seats)

What I would really like is a GPS I could mount on the dash & it tell
me info like MPH, Distance & Time to next Waypoint, direction,
altitude etc. I am not impressed with trying to read a map from those
small screens. But the Distance & Time to the next waypoint would be
cool. (I program my own waypoints in based on Highway changes, Exits
planned etc)

I have a Garmin c330. I bought it for about $270 at Best Buy. I HAS the
option in it to set the routing for a truck, or a car/motorcycle. So far, I
have found it very useful. It seems to be the cheapest unit I could find
that has the features I need. It allows you to store up to 500 'waypoints'.
The routing seems to go from very good to not-so-good. Of course you can
just go whatever way you want and the device will reroute itself.

So far, I am pleased. As far as what unit you should use, it all depends on
how much you want to spend. There are probably much better units out there
for a much higher price, but I am more than satisfied. I find it to be very
useful when the directions I get from dispatch make no sense, or the
streetsign is missing or a dozen other things that can make places hard to
find.

No matter what GPS or computer routing you use, or if you use only a foldup
map, sometimes there are errors. So far this unit has done an excellent job,
and hasn't got me lost yet. I find it to be very useful.
