I am looking for suggestions for eating while out on the road for
weeks at a time that won't break the wallet.

What do you eat? How do you save money on the food bill?

Do you have a money saving tip on food purchases and etc?

What is your biggest money saving tip while out on the road that don't
concern food?

Thanks in Advance.

Hank

I'm no longer an OTR driver, I'm home each day, but when I was OTR I ate all
but one or two meals all week from the groceries I brought with me. I had
an electric cooler and a DC oven, looks like a 12 volt toaster-oven.
Usually by the end of the week I would break down and buy a fast-food meal.
I virtually never ate in the truckstop restaraunt. At the time I was
spending $30-40 per week for groceries versus $75 or 80 otherwise.

For breakfast I would typically eat cold cereal and a bagel and some o.j.
Sometimes I would heat up the microwave sausage & biscuits in my DC oven.
Hotpockets also heat ok.

For lunch I would usually eat a sandwich and chips. For dinner I would eat
a TV dinner or sandwich and soup or stew. Most TV dinners will heat up
nicely in the DC oven. Burton has a "stove" similar to the DC oven but it
looks like a lunch box. I found the DC oven allowed for a wider range of
items to be cooked. The bottom does, however, get pretty hot. I strapped a
small wooden cutting-board to the bottom of the oven so it would take the
heat and the oven wouldn't damage the truck floor or dash while it was
cooking.

Not only did this save me money but it allowed me to eat more conveniently.
The time wasted by customers could be meal time rather than starve time.

The best money saving tip is buy as much as possible at home or a nearby Wal
Mart and as little as possible from a truck stop.

If I was OTR now I would probably spring for an inverter and microwave. The
downside to the DC overn was that some things took 45-90 minutes to heat.
This wasn't a problem if you planned properly.

Drain the swamp. Deport Islam. Until Muslims observe and protect
human/religious rights of others they should not be allowed to remain in the
West. Islam, as practiced, is incompatible with Western freedom.
