Low level sonic booms are rare because most USAF jets do them at
extremely high alittude so you won't notice them that much.
Years ago while living with my parents in cincinnati, both my dad and I
were outside on differerent sides of the hose.
We heard this humongous bang and we both headed for each other
wondering who dropped what or whatever.
My dad quickly suggested sonic boom.
Later that evening on the news, it was in fact a sonic boom which was
preplanned.
As the cincinnat General Electric (GE) plant produces a large quantity
of jet engines, the boom was in honor of the first jet engine they
produced as some anniversary thing or what ever it was.
Anyways, it scared the holy hell out of most of the county and
surrounding area.
And of course, the USAF may have had one it's newest top secret jets in
the gulf testing it out.
