Dave there's been lots of studies to see if the day time lights on trucks
really do what your saying. I know my company, with alot of other major oil
companies, a few years back ran with there lights on all the time. Remember
on back of the truck that said"Our light are on for safety"? Then they took
the signs off and turned the day lights off.
We asked why and they came back and said our accident rate has hot changed
for 5 years with the lights on. And a few accidents they asked the other
driver that was at fault why did they do what they did and they said they
didn't see the truck. I know it's hard to believe someone saying they didn't
see a truck but that's what they said.
Another point with us was our gasoline tankers run slower than most of the
other traffic and trucks. When a truck passed us we had the problem of the
truck coming over into our lane because he thought we signalled him with our
lights for clearance. So I just don't know if the day lights work for a
truck or not. Now I believe every motorcycle should have them on since
they're a smaller vehicle.
