I would hope so, because every time, Bush, Cheney, Any senator, or Congressman, Governor, or other big wig shows up, Security details must be made, which pulls much needed man power away from getting the job done. If Bush and the rest stay away, that will leave more people to get the job done. Can you honestly give me a good reason for ANY politician to show up down there at anytime during this disaster?
I guess that would explain why Bush showed up in Iraq for a Thanksgiving dinner photo op.
OR Carter at three mile island, knocking on the wall of the reactor saying "It looks good to me"
Or Clinton at Oklahoma City "I feel your pain" or Clinton at the trade center in 1995 "I still feel your pain"
Those we more localized disasters, but it doesn't matter, I was just responding to your comment about the security issues. I agree that even a non scheduled stop would likely require a lot of security, and that resources could be better spent in relief efforts than yet another opportunity for a politician to have his picture taken and to utter some meaningless rhetoric, the fact remains that he certainly managed to find the resources to ensure his safety to have his picture taken with the troops eating Thanksgiving dinner in Iraq.
Oh, right, the previous poster seems to be saying, credit Bush with any plan that had been formulated decades ago for evacuating major population centers BUT do not blame his for the plan's inadequacy.
Its a photo op, its got nothing to do with party affiliation, it's about politics. Both sides are guilty. And its a scumbag action anytime any politician does it.
If he doesn't show up: "Well, he obviously doesn't give a ***, can't even bother to show up to see what's going on."
I have to confess that I was on vacation, deep in the woods, without electricity, no radio, no TV, no newspapers. I had no idea what was going on in New Orleans. I was surprised to find out yesterday how bad the conditions were, and how slow the response was to the emergency. It seems that so to was your government.
Bush put things into action before the storm hit. Click any of the links in a prior post in this thread.
Thing may have been put in place, but it seems that it wasn't quite enough. As I mentioned, I was away and out of touch with the media reports for 5 days. When I came back I was hearing about the stuff that was just starting to happen. I have not yet bothered to follow the news back to reports of people firing at police and relief workers. I can only tell you that if I were a relief worker or in charge of relief operations, I would be packing up and leaving as soon as I was fired on.
The fact remains that while thousands were dying, Bush went ahead with his political speech, and afterward, he played golf. There is no excuse for his failures. Dubya is a scumbag guilty of the deaths of thousands.
