Joyce,
I think my primary goal is to make my sleeping time, uninterrupted, and uneventful. The good thing is that I know the which rest stops and which truck stops from Washington to California to avoid since I have done quite a bit of long distance driving to visit family. The shady ones for some reason have this "stench" about them and we would do our best to just do what we needed to and continue on without delay.
In regards to keeping the doors locked, I have read horror stories (be it true or not) and have heeded the message :)

Dan,
Several years ago, at a truck stop in Va. I saw a decal with a lizard on it, and the words,,, NO LOTLIZARDS
on it. but a sign with BEWARE BIG DOG
might stop anyone,,,except I thought Lot
Lizards had a different approach, you can
call them and their pimp will take them to
you....I'd watch that one,,,,carefully, he might look like King Kong.
or,,,if your cheap,,,,just don't answer the knock at the door.....and keep your doors locked.. and the privacy cutain closed.no matter where you are parked.
Can't trust anyone today..may look like grandma moses, and actually be hatchet mary.....
