There's probably more bogus ebay and paypal communication than genuine
communication. Another scam which often uses ebay or online merchandise
sites is the bogus check scam. One nasty scam has the crook issuing a bogus
cashier check, which can take 6 weeks to determine is a fake. Ofetn the
crook will overpay for the item and ask the seller to refund the difference.
Another scam involves a simple bounced check. Or another scam is the
lottery scam. You're informed you have won a prize in some lottery and they
are issuing a smaller check in advance of the real prize. Except for the
cashier check scam, the point is just to get your bank account info, even if
it's just printed on the returned check. Once they have your account and
routing info, they monitor your account for a month or so to see when it's
at its maximum and then empty it.

The primary cause of terrorism is not occupation, humiliation, or
desperation. If it were, the Tibetans would be the greatest terrorists.
The primary cause of terrorism is that it works. And it works because the
craven international community gives into it and rewards it. It also works
because too many Islamic leaders praise it and too few condemn it.
Terrorism will continue as long as potential terrorists believe they will
benefit from using that tactic. - Alan Dershowitz
