I fail to see what I was talking about.  Build a high speed ferry

Besides, what does what you "want" have to do with the need to build a
road through hostile and environmentally sensitive terrain like that?
Should the P&N for such a project include "but I WANT to drive my car
the whole way down the American continents"?

My wild ass estimate for such a road would be in the billions of
dollars, not including the environmental damage and who knows what
kind of unforseen impacts in the future.  All for what someone
"wants"?

If it's trucking companies that "want" to drive their vehicles from SA
to NA, well tough shit.  Let them get on a ferry at one end and get
off at the other.  We should be getting away from trucks as transport
anyway, and a road would just encourage more of them.

geeze John... you almost sound like an anti-road guy! ;-)

No, I'm a proponent for building roads where they're both cost
effective and needed. Completing the Pan Am Road just to say it's
done is neither of those.

I don't think they have a ferry... for some reason... which is
interesting...

Tells me there's no demand.

If you read the link.. the guy who shipped his car in a container then
hopped a plane to the destination port (Cartagena I think) to pick up
his car.

I did read it. Sounds to me like there's little demand for specific
vehicle transportation across the gap, either private or commercial.
