Another popular item from ~10 yr ago is the wealth of "highway ends"
sites, and even the brief spin-off of multiplex sites. I don't hear
much about them anymore, but I do consult state-ends.com and other
ends sites from time to time in my research. Google Maps Street View
and many state DOT video logs and downloadable maps weren't around
back then to investigate highway routings with mouseclicks instead of
road trips.

I was big on the highway ends for a while, and it did give me a reason to see different parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and New England during a time when I hadn't seen as much.


The "where does this highway go and end?" question is less well
answered today in most (but not all) countries beyond the US. There,
amateurs' photos and videos and textual road trip reports are still
needed where neither imagery apps like GMSV nor government/
concessionaire web sites provide the video, photos, or even
downloadable maps to answer the question.
