So what's the problem? If it ain't broke...

I wasn't inferring a problem per se, but I do note that there is an increasing pressure for the UK to convert its signage - from within the UK. Several cases in point that I can dig up (with sufficient time) include local police districts peading with the UK's transport ministry to convert clearance restriction limit signage from 'apostrophes and quotes' to meters because of an increasing problem with lorry drivers from the continent not knowing what those signs say and thus having to have their vehicles extricated from underneath bridges that are too low for them (along with other related inconveniences such as continually having to repair the damage to the bridges and the traffic disruptions).

Also, the MPH speed limit signs that are used in the UK look completely identical to km/h speed limits signs that are used in the rest of Europe - just the number inside of a red circle. If it wasn't for the UK's driving on the left (a REAL cue that different rules are in effect!), I could easily envision many more problems on that front there, too - as the cars that are sold on the continent only have the 'km/h' scale on their speedometers (no 'MPH' at all).
