well yes.. I'm not in favor of each of us having a permanent ID
placed on us... and I'd be totally opposed to any real-time
tracking and reporting GPS placed in any car no matter what the
state of the art is.
GPS can be used without reporting location off the vehicle.
It -can- but nothing will prevent later adding a feature so that
the government will be able to track the vehicle every inch of the
way ... and that is the fundamental problem in the eyes of many.
Haven't you heard? They're already doing that with your cell phone.
No features need to be added. Why track a car, which you park and
walk away from? They can follow you more closely with your cell
phone, which you pretty well always carry.
This has been explained to you before ... owning a cellphone is
VOLUNTARY, and if you have one it can be turned off or left at home.
So's owning a car. Your point is?
Totally different from your mandated GPS tracking system.
It is not "my" tracking system, it's part of the ITS implementation in
new cars. All I'm saying is that it can be used as a substitute for the
gas tax in the future. I have suggested ways that GPS could be used
without sending detailed location info, and others have suggested ways
that a system could be implemented on a voluntary basis - i.e., offer a
lower price if people buy into the system.
Resistance is futile. It will happen.
GPS "tracking" is a reality - look here:
"The most exciting feature of TomTom GO 740 LIVE is that it includes a
SIM card module which provides two way connectivity for your device. "
"TomTom Buddies allows you to exchange location and text messages with
other friends"
of course, the connectivity feature also allow real-time traffic info
plus the ability to alter your route to avoid incidents and backups...
If a GPS was offered as an option while retaining the convention pump-
charged gas tax - and the GPS gave you good real-time traffic and
avoidance routing... real time gas prices.. and where parking is and
availability.. automatically takes care of tolls... etc....
and again.. one could choose the pay per mile or the convention pump
tax...
and they set the pricing such that the pump tax is going to be a
higher tax than the per mile charge...
I think a lot of folks will switch... and if concerns or actual abuses
come to light - there will be an uproar and the govt will be reined
in ... so that the average person cannot legally be tracked and if
they are .. it will not be allowed in court and will be treated much
like an illegal wiretap or not mirandizing... the evidence not allowed
in court.
But I think if someone thinks that you could actually keep the CIA
part of the government from using any/all technology to track bad
guys... that would be a tougher proposition...
as opposed to an outright mandate... that's how

of course it also does this:
