Here's a rundown of the trip I took to Texas over the holiday break.
26 Dec: To Arlington via Joplin and Siloam Springs. This allowed some
additions to the ENDS! project to be added soon. Notes: when taking
MO 66 west out of Joplin, the first K-66 sign posted is at the
intersection with K-26 in Galena. Second, it appears that the end
signage for US 166/400 has been removed. The route contains a
roundabout for an intersection to a casino entrance (that gives an
indicator on just how close US 166/400 is to OK).
Seriously? Going on I-44 WB, you have to cut into Kansas to get to the
casino from Misery? Interesting for sure. I wonder if ODOT or the Quapaw
tribe helped pay for it? Somehow I doubt it. I do know the Cherokees spend
lots of money on infrastructure upgrades such as bridges, but only within
the state.
Actually the roundabout is in Missouri, about 1/4 mile from the state
line.
Further south, I
took photos in Noel on MO 59 with the overhanging rocks, where the
clearance is posted 11'-2". At Southwest City is the northeasternmost
meat cleaver in Oklahoma; OK 20 at the line. It is shown with AR 43.
Going south, the next posting of AR 43 is at the T intersection five
miles south. To answer US71's question on the MO 43 error, the MO 43
sign has MHTD (prior to becoming MoDOT) markings with a streak of rust
revealing some age. The OK 20 and the directional banners are all
ODOT. Along the Cherokee Turnpike, Scenic 412 (the free alternate)
uses brown shields.
Did you notice the widely split lanes and the deep ravine between the lanes
just east of the beginning of the turnpike? Very scenic. Reminded me of
eastern Tennessee mountain expressways for a half mile or so.
I remember the split; it reminds me of IH44 just west of Rolla or
MO465 near Branson.
The 31st was a trip to Bentonville. At McAlester, the new Hereford
Road interchange is open. Just north of Electric Avenue is a distance
sign (went too fast for a photo) for Hereford Road and OK 113, using
the meat cleaver. That was the only meat cleaver added on US 69 since
my last trip.
There are still circles on I-40 at OK 100 and OK 10. There are also
straggler OK 51 circles in downtown Tulsa, and some circle 66 signs on I-44
overheads. I also saw a circle 112 marker near Pocola last month.
On IH40 east of US69 this was unchanged; this was the case in this
trip. On US69 the only other meat cleaver was for OK150; the rest of
the BGS still used circles.
A previously-omitted note: all the mile markers on US69 are gone!
